MECHANICAL VARIABLE SPEED DRIVES

We can supply two systems: friction disc and belt.

Both types are efficient, easy to understand and operate. They are robust transmissions so well able to deal with shock loads.

As speed setting is reduced, the output torque available is increased unlike electronic variable speed drives (inverters) which only maintain constant torque output. To put it another way, the slower an inverter controlled motor is run, the less motor power is available.

This can mean that in some cases a larger motor must be obtained to achieve enough power output at lower speed settings.

Both friction disc and belt variators are prepared to have standard metric motors fitted and IEC gearboxes to suit the application, according to speed range and transmission configuration (e.g. coaxial in line or right angle).

 Friction disc variator details

  Power range: .18kw (.25hp) - 3kw (4hp)

Output speed range : 350- 1750rpm (with 4 pole motor)

Available with various gearboxes for lower speed ranges.

Available in foot or flange form.

Adjustment: manual by handwheel.

Belt variator details

Power range: .37kw (.5hp) - 150kw (200hp)

Output speed range - 500 - 4000 rpm (with 4 pole motor)

Available with various gearboxes for lower speed ranges.

Available in foot or flange form.

Adjustment: by hand or electro servo motor.
